This year 2011-2012 ushers in the tenth anniversary of the Institute for Communal Contemplation and Dialogue. Many of you know us by Engaging Impasse: Circles of Contemplation and Dialogue® -- even this website is named that. And for the majority of the past 10 years that has been the focus as hundreds of you participated in this process that invited you to face into your impasse from the perspective of communal contemplation and dialogue so as to imagine a different way of being and acting.
Now that so many have experienced the Circles themselves or some process which reflects its key insights, ICCD is ready to embark on another phase of its journey integrating into its current focus on engaging impasse another aspect focused more on how contemplation has transformed us and our ways of responding to the issues facing us in church and society.
Here is how some of our participants responded to our recent ICCD survey:
The cosmic need is great
.This is a time that sorely needs a transformation of consciousness
.We are in the midst of a time of great possibility, on the cusp of something new, a tipping point perhaps
.Contemplation is the bedrock for transforming our consciousness
.
ICCD realizes that contemplation invites a transformation of consciousness and once we begin to live out of that new way of seeing we change how we address the critical issues facing us. Yet, we live in structures and systems that are operating out of older models and assumptions.
The ICCD planning committee reflected on what was evolving as the next stage for our work. It became clear that it is to encourage an intentional living out of and witnessing to what it means to live out of a consciousness rooted in contemplation and dialogue. We envision involving not only the ICCD community but others who resonate with ICCD's vision. We want to learn from each other how to act in new ways to address the issues in our church and world.
We are excited about this future unfolding and will be developing ways to involve you in this next stage. One of the ways is the new 1-day program Transformation in a Time of Uncertainty which is geared toward those who resonate with the vision and values incorporated within ICCD's programs and would like to learn more about this time we live in and how contemplation invites us to transformation. You can read about it below or click to Transformation in a Time of Uncertainty for more information. Our hope is that some of you who have participated in an ICCD program might sponsor this program in your area and invite friends and co-workers who are on a similar path to come and join you in this one day event. There are still days available throughout the year so if you are interested contact ICCD at iccdinstitute@gmail.com.
Don't forget about our FACEBOOK page. This is also a way to share ICCD with your friends.
Of course, increasing the work of the Institute means the need for financial support also increases. We are hoping that you may want to donate to the work of ICCD throughout the year so that others might be able to have the kind of transformative experience you have had or to assist us in moving into the future. To assist you in that we have set up a Pay Pal account. Be the first to click on the Donate button at the top right of this page. You can also send your check or money order payable to ICCD to ICCD, 8531 W. McNichols Road, Detroit, MI 48221-2500.
We are excited about the future and know that everything before us has brought us to this moment. We are grateful for your interest and support.
ICCD's Ongoing Work
New Formats
Engaging Impasse: Circles of Contemplation and Dialogue®
ICCD continues to invite participation in what we call the flagship program, Engaging Impasse: Circles of Contemplation and Dialogue®.
In 2011-2012 we are offering the Engaging Impasse (EI) Circle in two formats - a 1-session format meeting once for 7 consecutive days and a 2-session format meeting for a 3 day session and a 4-day session. Both formats offer the same enriching experience inviting participants into a deep contemplative place. We hope these options will address the increasing limits on financial resources and time available to persons to do these types of programs.

Transformation in a Time of Uncertainty
A New 1-Day Program
ICCD's newest program-Transformation in a Time of Uncertainty-has been designed as a 1-day introductory program to begin to explore the time we are living in and how contemplation can assist us in the movement toward transformation.
It invites participants to explore the time we are living in through a process that taps into our faith and spirituality; to learn how to listen, speak, and pray in ways that invite conversation among different perspectives, and to a new place of understanding and action. It is an invitation to become part of a movement for transformation in this time of uncertainty.

Special Programs
ICCD has designed 1 and 2 day processes for LCWR regions as well as keynote addresses with integrated processes for a variety of congregational Assemblies and Chapters. Contact nsylvester@aol.com.
Congregational Corporate Pre-Chapter Retreat
In 2008 the Sisters of Providence from Montreal contracted with ICCD to develop and implement a corporate retreat for all of their sisters based on the principles and processes of the engaging impasse process. As part of their chapter preparation this 5-day experience was held in their provinces. It has been well received by their French speaking province in Montreal, their Spanish speaking province in Santiago and their English speaking provinces in Edmonton, Manila and Spokane. If you are interested in something similar don't hesitate to contact us in care of nsylvester@aol.com.
Issue Focus Process
Engaging the Impasse of Immigration-an ICCD Program
As the country prepares for changes in our immigration policies ICCD has developed a special program entitled, Engaging the Impasse of Immigration. The process is designed for people who are concerned about or involved with the Immigration issue, including police officers, human resource directors at a plant, workers, or parishioners. The goal is to change the civil discourse around the Immigration issue. ICCD offers the Engaging the Impasse of Immigration Program for local and regional areas. A similar process is being developed for use with other issues. If you are interested please contact ICCD at nsylvester@aol.com.
Always in Season
A Coffee and Tea Contemplation Party
We know that impasse happens not only at the national political level but in our families, worshipping communities, parishes, and workplaces. We want to try to soften this divide so we at ICCD are inviting people to host A Coffee and Tea Contemplation Party. Introduced in Fall 2010 A CTC Party is an opportunity for those with whom we relate but who differ on some of these issues to come together and be with each other in a contemplative non-threatening way. We believe that as we come into each other's presence respecting our differences we may be able to create a space where we can converse together and learn from each other.

The Book, Crucible for Change: Engaging Impasse through Communal Contemplation and Dialogue
ICCD published Crucible for Change in 2004. We believe the book is still a valuable tool for personal reflection and for promoting the work of ICCD. In the interest of economy and Earth we are pleased to announce that Crucible for Change is now available in a PDF version only. You may now purchase the PDF version using Pay Pal. Just click the Buy Now button on the book page. Click here for more information.
