Circle Conversations

Mary McCann, IHM was an original member of the Design Team for Engaging Impasse: Circles of Contemplation and Dialogue®. In this capacity she participated in the planning and enabling of the circle experiences and has written the chapter entitled “Being Present to a Process” in the book Crucible for Change: Engaging Impasse Through Communal Contemplation and Dialogue, edited by Nancy Sylvester, IHM and Mary Jo Klick.

Additionally, Mary is a process consultant, spiritual director, and writer. She authors a Quarterly Reflection entitled A Time to Sow published by the River Raisin Institute in the Monroe, Michigan. It promotes vision and motivation for sustainable living.

Mary’s work/ministry experience includes six years as IHM President which featured the implementation of a highly collaborative approach to congregational leadership and governance and the foundational planning and decisions leading to the earth friendly and sustaining renovation of the IHM Motherhouse and grounds. Between 1982 and 1994, Mary worked with graduate students, including many international students, in the Integration for Ministry Programmes at Regis College, the Jesuit Faculty in the Toronto School of Theology. Her work included the facilitation of ministerial growth experiences, theological reflection seminars, practice in Spiritual Direction along with individual spiritual direction and the direction of long retreats in the Ignatian tradition.

Mary has longstanding interests in personal and corporate spirituality, systemic analysis, and organizational behavior and change. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Notre Dame and the M.P.S. in Spirituality from Loyola University (Chicago) including a nine month intensive program in spiritual direction from the Institute for Spiritual Leadership (also in Chicago).

Mary finds relaxation in photography, long walks in the early morning, heron-watching, and poetry.

Mary can be reached at circles@engagingimpasse.org.
